Abstract
This zine provides a beginner guide to garbage gardening, or ways of repurposing discarded materials to grow plants. Garbage gardening can provide methods of growing food with limited access to land or resources, as well as the opportunity to reflect on the material wastes we produce as individuals and communities. This zine is a product of Summer Cardarelli’s research as a Delaware Public Humanities Institute Summer Fellow and as an Interdisciplinary Frontier Graduate Fellow at the University of Delaware, alongside their own experiences as a community gardener. The pages themselves were created using trash, including lettering from cereal boxes, old magazines, and food packaging and paper from cardboard boxes, Amazon mailers, and scrap paper from campus offices.
