Abstract
This zine is a love letter to the open source ecosystem that allows us to learn, unlearn, and broaden our horizons every day — to its resources and tools, booklets and online classes, and code. Created by a critical geographer, it explores some of open source’s historical roots and the geospatial open source (FOSS4G) in particular. It highlights the importance of not only cherishing, but also actively maintaining and defending open source systems as crucial digital commons and third spaces. Open source is under attack and a lot of pressure, but much needed to build liveable futures for everyone. On the last pages, the zine lists and honours resources, tools, data repositories, and educational material on geospatial open source, providing a good starting point for anyone wanting to explore this space more, and geographers who want to broaden their open source knowledge and skillset.
