Energy Futures

Rachel Webb Jekanowski, 2025

Abstract

Energy infrastructures are all around us, and thinking about connections between energy and place can lead us to questions of environmental (in)justice, culture, and how societies build “the future.” I created this zine for an in-person workshop with members of Memorial University’s Geography Graduate Student Association (GGSA) at the Bonne Bay Aquarium and Research Institute in May 2025, Newfoundland. My research and teaching practice explores the material and speculative aspects of energy cultures, and I enjoy using zines, film, and other creative forms to explore ways in which energy mediates—and is mediated by—politics, place, visual culture, and history. This zine is designed to be an activity-in-a-box: print out a copy, grab some pens and collage materials, and your on your way to crafting alternative energy futures!
